The Hydrangea Collection

Acceptance. Feeling. Forgiveness.

Twenty four original abstract watercolors

2020

This collection is full of pure emotion and feeling.

This past spring when we were all suddenly spending so much time in our homes, my daughters and I explored every inch of our yard. We stumbled upon the hydrangeas on the side of the house and marveled at their beauty.

These were not planted by us. Previous owners planted them and even after not being taken care of for a very long time, they still had so much beauty. They still prevailed.

They were not perfect. They needed pruning, fertilizer, love, and care. But regardless, there was an acceptance for where they were at and there was beauty in that. They had plenty of healthy leaves, buds, and flowers even with everything that they had been through.

I began to see a parallel between these flowers and our lives. Collectively, we all have those hydrangeas on the side of the house and sometimes they get pushed to the side without the care that they really need. Their beauty still surfaces, through light and dark.

We can all relate to those moments in our lives where things are not perfect, and when we gain acceptance of where we are at and how we are feeling, the beauty surfaces.

Throughout my life, and most recently as a mother, I’ve had moments where I’ve struggled and felt that I let my emotions get the better of me. When I really accept where I’m at, and realize emotions are not something to be ashamed or afraid of, love wins, and I’m able to give all of the tender care that is needed, especially to myself.

The Hydrangeas on the Side of the House

Blue flower.
Pressed Stains.
Break away.

Flash of red.
Emotion overflows.
Limits pushed.

Tears fall.
Pain swells.
Love wins.

Now I see.
The tender care.
That we need.

I’m sorry.
