Matting Miniature Artwork

There’s something incredibly special about miniature artwork.

To clarify what I mean by miniature, I’m talking about artwork smaller than 5” x 5”. It really is true that something tiny and precious can have a huge impact in your home and make a wonderful statement. These works of art are already beloved as miniatures and when a mat is added, it changes the feeling around the art. It makes the framed artwork feel magnificent. Miniature artwork can stand alone, but when you mat the art, it brings it to a whole new level.

Mats give the artwork space and room to breathe, which allows it to shine and have a delightful presence in your home.

I love using wide mats with small artwork to give the art the space that allows it to speak it’s message more clearly. It lets the vision and emotional quality of the art unfold in a new way by elevating the presence of it. You zoom in on the feelings and elements of the art, and the space created around the art allows you to do this. The wide mat can do a variety of things like create a bold statement, add elegance and sophistication, allow for a bigger presence, or create consistency for a variety of art to be paired together.

You can get creative with the color of your mat, but I enjoy pairing colorful artwork with a clean white mat.

It allows the art to nourish you, speak to you, and tell your story.

Of course there are also practical aspects to matting artwork.

  • Creates space between the glass and art, which protects the artwork further

  • Allows original art to breathe within the frame, to expand and contract as needed within climate changes

  • Keeps art or prints from sticking to the glass over time

  • Allows you to be able to frame the art in the size frame that you want to choose, which may be a more standard size frame and easier to find

  • Helps to keep your art in place within a frame

  • Adds extra visual appeal to your art

  • Adds depth and dimension to your art

  • Provides a clean fresh border for your art

Matted artwork allows your art to stand alone as a statement piece or works well in a grouping or gallery wall.

By matting artwork, it gives you access to have more options and create a space in your home that makes you feel amazing based on your preferences. Whether or not you choose a grouping or a single painting, it will create a beautiful statement and an amazing feeling within your home, which will ultimately help you to thrive everyday.

When you feel amazing the quality of your life reflects this, and you are able to thrive in the magnificent spaces you curate and surround yourself in, within your home.
