Sky Color

The idea for this collection of paintings started during moments of stillness when I would reflect upon my day, while holding my tiny baby.

You could say it was born when I became a mother.

There is something so incredibly special and magical during the first few months of your new baby’s life. Being able to watch how they develop and grow, as well as, feeling the bond and relationship created between mother and child, is such a heart felt process. It’s really a magnificent journey and one of the most cherished times in my life. I feel these moments still and know they are with me, but when translated into words, it’s doesn’t quite capture them in the same way. Paintbrushes and watercolors capture these feelings for me better than I could ever describe them.

During these quiet moments, I took note of all the beautiful things that I witnessed throughout my day.

The smells, the colors, the light, the wind, the smiles…

I also began taking note of all the captivating skies that we would witness and started to see how these were wonderful gifts everyday. They really made my soul happy in moments of exhaustion or times when I felt like I needed nourishment. I was spending my days nourishing my baby, and even though there were many moments of joy, there were also moments of struggle and exhaustion.

When I needed to be refreshed, mother nature provided me with uplifting color where ever I went.

Once I started to get into a new flow as a mother, and was also a little more rested (ha!), I decided it was time to start my art practice again. I went to our local art supply store and bought a new set of watercolors and a sketchbook. New tools and art supplies are so incredibly inspiring and provided a blank slate for this new phase of life that I was entering.

I allowed myself moments of play and curiosity again, and I find when I focus on what feels joyful without any outside pressures, that’s when the most magical things happen.

I started painting during nap times, the quiet times.

When we traveled I brought my paints and sketchbook with me so that I would be able to set aside a little time just for me. I would let the colors of the sky speak to me in miniature abstract paintings. I started to visualize a collection of miniature abstract skies all together, and that was how this collection was born. Each painting has meaning and memories instilled within them and my hope is that they go on to nourish whomever needs them and bring a bit of joy and beauty into our world.

This collection will always be special to me because it was the beginning of so many wonderful things and an incredible new adventure.
